  • The Senate voted 60-39 along party lines Wednesday on three steps to allow the final vote on its healthcare bill.  
  • All that remains is a single vote to pass the measure, which requires a simple majority (51 votes).  
  • The vote was originally set for Thursday evening. Democrats announced an agreement to hold the final vote beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, allowing lawmakers more time to get home for Christmas.

    "Discussions on Healthcare Bill Likely to Slip into February"

    • The White House privately anticipates healthcare talks to slip into February.
    • Disputes over abortion and the tight schedule are highly likely to delay a final deal.
    • House Democratic leaders seem inclined, at least for now, to largely accept the compromise worked out in the Senate, meaning it is likely that Obama will eventually get a deal.
