Right now, we know that they went into the House Budget Session at 3 p.m. today to create the shell of the reconciliation bill. This meeting was largely a formality. The House Budget Committee will continue working until a midnight deadline to mark up the "shell" health bill with recommendations for the House Rules Committee.
At least 48 hours must pass between the Budget Committee's completing its markup and the Rules Committee's taking up a bill. It is anticipated that either later tonight or sometime tomorrow the CBO may release the cost estimates for the real reconciliation bill.
In the news today, there continues to be a huge amount of speculation and a fair amount of mud-slinging from both parties.
Reuters and the NYTimes shared that Obama stated this afternoon that he believes they have enough Dem. votes in the House of Representatives to support the plan in a vote later this week (likely Friday or Saturday). Others have reported that this is the “vote of a lifetime” and that “the end game is here.”
Democratic leaders are optimistic that they will have the majority of votes they need to pass it, although they have don’t have 216 committed yes votes as of yet.
